Today we're headed to Victoria, Texas to teach a traditional style house from 1984 some new tricks.

I'm going to let the foyer set the tone for the rest of the house.
That's right, we're going bold! This design was featured in Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Magazine. The walls look like designer Kelly Wearstler's Imperial Trellis wallpaper, but blown up and hand painted. The nice thing is, you don't need a lot of furniture and accessories when the walls are already the star.
Off of the foyer is an office/library. Pretty traditional, but we're going to liven it up.
Painting or wallpapering the backs of bookshelves is very popular right now, and this room in Emily Clark's home proves why. It would certainly wake up our stodgy shelves.
I like Emily's balance of traditional with modern. Just what our office/library needed.
The dining room already has color and pattern for us, with this chinoiserie wallpaper.
It's all set to go bold. Instead of the expected mahogany dining table with fretwork chairs, we're going to mix it up.
What, midcentury modern & teak? I know, not what you'd think to put in there, but it really breaks the formality and still makes for a pretty room. I'm a little scared of the spider-meets-office lamp chandelier, though. How about this, from Shades of Light, instead?
It's the Modern Tiered Crystal and Chrome Chandelier. Actually, crystal and chrome is a good description for the balance between traditional and modern.

Yep, there's our mix of traditional (matelassé coverlets and nightstand) and modern (chairs, lamp and random polka dots!)
